Mountains eh? For what are we exactly other than pieces of rock which provide an entire microclimate and home for many species - often we are covered in grass or simply moorland; but we may seem asleep or dormant but us mountains, we are very much awake! And make no mistake, exactly like Benbulbin in neighbouring County Sligo, a Mountain which also has its own twitter feed, I as a mountain have also decided to push the boat out and do things somewhat differently - and keep a Blog. Will it be full of regular posts? Who knows, but it will grow or that I hope it does. But surely a mountain having a social media platform to use seems strange, and it probably does in one respect. But come on, it is the 21st century and stranger things have happened in the world, so in that respect it is more than likely a normal thing for a mountain to have and to use a social media platform.
Granted their are not that many mountains in the word which have a social media platform, but Benbulbin, a flat top mountain that acts as a guardian, for Sligo does indeed have its own social media platform, it uses Twitter, although it does not have a blog, so Benbulbin, I believe I might be the only mountain in the world to keep and write thus maintain a blog. “Waves at Benbulbin, from across the way in County Mayo!” But the other interesting thing with me as a mountain is that my name is simply,
“Croagh Patrick.”
And I suppose I am in one way a little bit more famous than even Benbulbin, for a start I am Ireland’s Holy Mountain, and not many other mountains can lay claim to being mentioned in lyrics written and performed by The Saw Doctors can they? Neither can they claim to having such important guests to have visited them, such as St Patrick, who overlooked the raw beauty of Clew Bay; thousands of feet below! But I can lay claim to meeting St Patrick years ago, that infamous Irish Saint who is celebrated around the world who is now something of a celebrity! And that is not the only thing I am famed for as a mountain - the other thing I am famed for is having a Church located at the top of me, on my Reek, which once every summer during July, on a Sunday gets busy with many people on pilgrimage to visit the church and to pray, plus to walk in the footsteps of St Patrick. Still though it is a hard life being a mountain, you have to look dormant - but in reality you are not dormant, you are very much awake providing homes for wildlife and a sanctuary for people wanting to see the great outdoors from a different perspective. Not only that but I protect the communities surrounding me from various weather fronts, a difficult life really, for a lump of rock that stands thousands of feet tall. For this is my Mountainous Hello from Ireland’s Holy Mountain, from me Croagh Patrick.
